Kicking the month-long celebration last July 15, Iloilo City Charter Day will reach its climax on August 25 with a list of exciting activities.

Iloilo City through its celebration of the Charter Day aims to create awareness of the history and development of the city, to inculcate sense of pride of the city’s heritage among the community, and to showcase the city as a growing and expanding metropolis. The first celebration of the charter in recent memory was done last year when the new mayor, Jed Patrick Mabilog, assumed office.

The 74th Iloilo City Charter Day activities on August 25 include a grand civic parade, the blessing and inauguration of the new Iloilo City Hall, the Mayor’s Ball, search for oustanding Ilonggos and outstanding government employees, medical and dental mission, and job fairs.

On top of the said events, August 25  is also declared a special non-working holiday on the virtue of Proclamation No. 203 signed by by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr by the authority of President Benigno S. Aquino III last July 12, 2011.

The Iloilo City Charter Day celebrates the incorporation of La Paz, Molo, Mandurriao, and Arevalo to the newly created City of Iloilo under Commonwealth Act No.158.
