SNEAK PEEK: Iloilo River Esplanade’s grandiose transformation
Finally, the much anticipated opening of the Iloilo River Esplanade is near. Set on August 18, as part of the 75th Iloilo City Charter Day celebrations, the Esplanade will surely amaze local and foreign visitors alike. Nothing in the country is much like the Iloilo Esplanade; truly a magnificent sight to behold side by side the beautiful Iloilo River and the Mandurriao urban area.
On August 18, Iloilo City Government officials to be led by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, and Senator Franklin Drilon will open the Esplanade to the public. Special guests will include Senator Loren Legarda and Congressman Manny Pacquiao. The venue of the inauguration will be at the Diversion Road side of the Esplanade.
Formerly known as the Trenas Boulevard, the long stretch of road along the Mandurriao side of the Iloilo River was closed at late November 2011 for the renovation. Now dubbed as the Iloilo Esplanade, it was formally inaugurated by HE Benigno Simeon Aquino III during his visit last June 2012. But then the Esplanade is still unfinished. On August 18, for the first time since its closure, the Iloilo Esplanade will be opened again to the public to enjoy the view of the river, do jogging, hang-outs and have romantic dates.
Viewing decks are available at different sites at the esplanade giving everyone a fantastic view of the river; spaces are available for possible food kiosks; the spacious entrances at both ends are perfect spaces for tae-bo, dancing, and other exercises or events; and fresh breeze of the river would surely blow away your stresses.
Below are the photos of the Iloilo Esplanade. See you there on August 18!
