Ilonggos and Visitors flock Esplanade’s explosive opening
It was a whole day of fun, excitement and entertainment at yesterday’s opening of the Iloilo Esplanade. Music, dance, fireworks, and a dragon boat exhibition game were the prime activities during the opening. The beautiful esplanade was well appreciated by the people of Iloilo City and other guests citing the breathtaking views and the magnificent landscaping. At night, the whole stretch of the park sparkles with lights illuminating the plants and the walk through.
Special guests include Senator Franklin Drilon and Congressman Manny Pacquiao attended the ceremonial program at the esplanade in the morning. This was followed by a fierce dragon boat competition participated by national and local teams.
In the afternoon, local Ilonggo bands rocked the visitors at the Esplanade with GMA 7′s Banda Musika sa Espalanade. While enjoying the music, the ambiance, and the views, the crowd also savored local Ilonggo dishes and treats at the makeshift kiosks erected in and around the Carpenter Bridge.
The whole day was capped with a fireworks display which perfectly reflected by the still river.
Meanwhile, the developments at the Iloilo Esplanade are not yet over. Renderings of proposed structures that will house restaurants, shops and other establishments are already displayed at the large vacant lots at the Carpenter Bridge entrance of the Esplanade.
The city government also expressed interest in lengthening the esplanade that will include Sooc (at Carpenter Bridge side) and from Diversion Road to Jalandoni bridge. With opening of the Esplanade, more tourism-related opportunities are now more viable at the area.
