One day trekking at mountains of Banate
For a seasoned mountaineer, this altitude may not pose as a challenge. But for me, an amateur trekker, let’s say it’s like undergoing a brutal initiation. From Iloilo City, one may reach Banate by boarding a bus to Estancia from Tabuc Suba Terminal at Jaro. The ride takes about 30-40 minutes and you’ll be dropped at Banate town proper. From there one may get to the foot of the mountain by riding a tricycle (which may take at least another 20 minutes). The trek is not much steep, but to reach the top one must walk for about two hours. I may say, agonizing at first, but in reaching the top, you’ll be able to see the beautiful view of the sea separating Iloilo and Negros, and the mountain ranges dotting the eastern side of Panay.
Things to bring: lots of water, sun protection, and of course don’t wear slippers which I did. Don’t forget to bring your best buddy, he may come in handy when the terrain gets rough.Tags: Banate, Iloilo, Mountains, Trekking
